San Francisco For A Nice Ambience
San Francisco is one of the most known destinations in the USA. The city on the west coast of California enchants visitors with its relaxed ambience, pleasant climate and, above all, numerous sights that enjoy worldwide fame.
Best Things to Do in San Francisco
Alcatraz Prison Island
A trip to San Francisco is not complete without a visit to the US Federal Penitentiary Alcatraz. The remains of the former crook stronghold on Alcatraz Island in San Francisco Bay are the highlight among San Francisco sights.
Golden Gate Bridge
At least as well known as Alcatraz is the famous orange-red bridge that can be seen on every San Francisco postcard: the Golden Gate Bridge. It is not only a symbol of the city, but one of the entire USA. At almost 2,750 m long, it spans the Golden Gate Strait and forms the gateway to San Francisco Bay, where Alcatraz is also located. The bridge was opened in 1937 after four years of construction.
Lombard Street
Although Lombard Street runs right through San Francisco and is a key approach to the Golden Gate Bridge, only a small stretch to the east is particularly well known. The world’s most winding road got its serpentine-like course in 1922.
Painted ladies
Attention house fans: At the Painted Ladies on Alamo Square you will find the setting that we all know from the US series of the 80s and 90s. The Victorian houses, painted in bright colors, date from the 19th century.
Pier 39
Pier 39 in San Francisco was once a basic boat dock. Today it is the hub of Fisherman’s Wharf, the fishing district of San Francisco. Restaurants with the fish are lined up with souvenir shops and cafes. The pretty little houses on the boardwalk, which are designed with flowers and some are brightly painted, create a very nice ambience.
