Tell us about your self and your journey experience.
Hey there! My name is Gigi. I’ve been touring internationally since I was 14. My first journey was to Australia and the main goal was to see a kangaroo (check).
I’ve been hooked ever since, so it makes sense that 4 years in the past (May 2012), I determined to ditch my everlasting address and take to the road full-time with my backpack, freelance writing business, and small dog.
I’ve been mostly touring in Europe since then (Belgium, Scotland, Switzerland, Italy, France, Croatia, Slovenia…etc.), however am currently making my way throughout Canada, beginning in tremendous fairly and way underrated Ottawa.
For a living, I write books, weblog posts, websites, and journal articles. And for fun, I’m a reader, hiker, dancer, cook/foodie, and adventurer. I love trying new things, particularly when it involves meals or the outdoors.
Where did you go in your tour and the way lengthy was it?
While we were in New York City this June, we took the brand-new, super-intriguing crime tour, Stories from the Dark Side: Criminals, Gangs, & Mafia Tour with Walks of New York.
The tour lasted 2.5 hours and took us from decrease Manhattan and the Financial District all of the way up through Chinatown and into Little Italy (to a restaurant the place a well-known homicide went down).
What tour firm did you use and why?
We went with Walks of New York because I did and loved a tour with them in Italy with their sister company, Walks of Italy.
We took this particular tour because I’ve by no means heard of something like it. A guided tour of metropolis crime with a former cop? Yes, please.
Note: Walks of New York and Walks of Italy now fall under the name Take Walks.
Why did you select a tour rather than touring independently?
We did loads of independent exploring in NYC, however we definitely wouldn’t have been able to glean half as a lot about the city’s criminal historical past with out this particular tour.
Our information was not solely a retired NYC police officer, however was on the force throughout 9/11 and thus had interesting insights into each the day-to-day of crime within the metropolis and the big, infamous stuff.
What did you want about the New York crime tour? What was your favourite part?
The private tales from our information were the best. He had interesting issues to say about the media’s role in how crime is perceived, the federal vs. state criminal systems, and the characters he personally met alongside the way, together with a infamous cop who’s in jail now for assaulting a jail inmate.
Was there something you didn’t like about the New York crime tour?
I would have loved to get some sort of email or handout afterward with information. There was a lot mentioned and I would have liked to learn up on a few of the crimes and characters afterward, however it’s tough to recollect all of the names unless you write them down.
>>Going to NYC? See if the New York pass is worth it.
Did you eat something amazing in your tour?
There was no meals included.
Would you recommend this tour? Would you change something about it?
Absolutely. Especially for crime buffs, like myself. The solely factor I’d change would be some sort of handout or email on the finish with extra info and/or recommended reading.
Do you think the New York crime tour would be good for a brand new traveler? Why or why not?
Absolutely. It’s actually interesting stuff you likely wouldn’t learn elsewhere (especially because you get private tales out of your NYPD guide).
